WDPCL was established by Wilman elders in October 2022 with the intention of leading cultural heritage management relating to Dryandra Woodlands National Park. It is now possible for the Willman people through the WDPCL to work with in this legitimate governance framework for the goal of protection enhancement promotion and business development of our 40,000 years of cultural heritage embedded in the dryandra National Park.
To achieve this goal WD PCL has set itself the objective of ensuring the protection and continued health of Wilma cultural heritage and of the Wilman Noongar Dryandra people. The principle means to implement this objective through a comprehensive "Healthy Country Plan' (HCP) developed by the WD PSL in consultation with Wilman Elders for the Dryandra Woodlands National Park. The HCP documents agreed actions and priorities to protect and manage cultural heritage and ecological values of dryandra Woodlands National Park and surrounds and identifies monitoring as a way to track effectiveness of the actions. The implementation of the HCP involves giving support to families to share record and keep their family stories and to work with other organizations to build respect for Wilman history and Noongar language.
These were timely choices as the potential for significant cultural heritage benefits could be accessed through the South West Native Title Settlement agreement in coordination with the Wheatbelt Parks and Reserves Management Plan 2021 (Wheatbelt Plan). The Settlement is the largest native title settlement in Australian history and will affect an estimated 30,000 Noongar people and encompasses approximately 200,000 square kilometers in the South West
